
Florida A&M athletic director Angela Suggs was arrested Monday on two felony counts associated to placing $24,000 in private bills on a company bank card at her earlier job.
Suggs, 55, is charged with grand theft and scheme to defraud, in addition to 4 misdemeanor counts of false claims on journey vouchers. She turned herself in to authorities Monday on the Leon County (Fla.) Detention Facility.
Suggs posted a $13,500 bond and was launched Monday afternoon.
Florida A&M employed Suggs as its new athletic director on a three-year, $750,000 contract simply 9 months in the past.
“Whereas the matter is unrelated to her duties as an worker at FAMU, we’re monitoring the state of affairs and can reply sooner or later as applicable,” FAMU interim president Timothy Beard stated in a press release.
Previous to FAMU, Suggs labored because the president and CEO of the Florida Sports activities Basis (FSF). An investigation started in November 2024 following an audit of Suggs’ enterprise bank card purchases, in line with the Florida Division of Regulation Enforcement.
“The investigation revealed Suggs misused her FSF-issued bank card to make wire transfers and money withdraws and private purchases at casinos throughout enterprise journeys, totaling greater than $24,000,” the Florida Division of Regulation Enforcement stated in a press release. “She then falsified journey vouchers, coding the unauthorized fees as meals.
“When requested concerning the unauthorized fees, Suggs claimed some had been for enterprise meals and others had been by accident charged to the enterprise card. She failed to totally repay (the inspiration) for her private expenditures.”
